Concrete Fence? Signs You Need Masonry Work Done

A concrete block fence is an attractive and durable addition to your landscape. With the right care and maintenance, your concrete fence should last for many years. Here are signs you need to hire a masonry company to give your fence an inspection or to perform repairs.

Your fence is leaning

Whether your concrete fence is secured with mortar or the large concrete blocks are expertly laid so leaning and tilting are prevented, eventually, the fence may lean anyway. This is largely due to the shifting of the earth surrounding the fence or can also be caused by a decline in the concrete blocks.

If your fence is leaning, hire a masonry company for repair right away. To find out if your concrete blocks are leaning,  place a ruler or level on top of your wall and see if the ruler or level stays straight. If it leans or curves, then your concrete fence needs attention.

Your fence is aging

Over time, even the most masterfully designed concrete fence will start to show signs of wear. Concrete blocks on the bottom of the fence — the ones that support the heft of the rest of the wall — are likely the first to go and will crack or crumble with age. Mortar may start to crumble and fall out of the fence as well, which creates not just an aesthetic issue, but a foundation one as well.

The sooner you have your older concrete fencing looked at, the less work may need to be done to repair the structure. Your masonry experts may replace old or crumbling pieces of concrete or take out whole sections, depending on the overall condition of your fence. Mortar may be added if there isn't any currently, or more mortar may be added to existing materials to further reinforce your fence.

Your fence needs an upgrade

Is the concrete of your fence stained and worn out? Do you wish your fence were thicker or taller? If your fence is in relatively good condition, you can simply have a masonry company upgrade your fence by adding new blocks to the structure to make it wider or taller. The more existing fence you have to work with, the cheaper your upgrade expenses may be.

Take care of your concrete fence so the landscaping addition lasts longer. You'll get a quote for services from your masonry expert so you'll know what to expect as far as costs. For more information, contact a local masonry company like A-1 Rooftop Chimney Sweep
