Gothic decorating is seen as dark and often morose. When used throughout a home, it is possible it will live up to this reputation, but a few antique gothic style lights will not turn a home into a residence suitable for Dracula. It is unfortunate that some home decorators ignore this style because many gothic design elements are elaborate and elegant, and when used correctly, will enhance the beauty of any home.

Brighten the Yard

A popular gothic design is standing lamps made to resemble a 19th-century gas street light. These models are perfect as single accents throughout the yard or installed in a row to light up a walkway. Their classic design is flattering to any home and will not go out of style like many other trendy lighting options.

Accessorize the Home

Exterior gothic home lighting for front entries offers a large selection to choose from. There are fixtures for home and garage use. The wall-mounted lights come in many sizes and include subdued black iron, darkened bronze or aged, rusted metal fixtures with a variety of glass globes. The scroll metalwork on many gothic lamps is delicate and luxurious rather than medieval, although there are many of those to choose from as well.

Add Some Elegance

Antique gothic style lights are also available as pendant lights and chandeliers. These dangling lights typically have a weathered appearance rather than sparkling crystals and shining brass. They can be installed on a porch or covered patio, in a gazebo or any other exterior structure, and are an eye-catching design feature that everyone will notice. The gothic design elements like electric candles, heavily-patinated metal and wrought iron leaves and animals help them to blend perfectly into a natural environment. Low ceilings or small spaces do not eliminate the possibility of adding gothic lighting because flush mount exterior lights are also available.

Gothic lighting includes a huge variety of designs that can be somber, dark and medieval. It is equally possible to find intricate and elegant exterior fixtures in this same line. Gothic lights are not restricted to vintage homes, brick or stone houses or any specific architectural style. The right design is available, whether it is to be mounted on a rustic cabin in the woods, a trendy modern home in the suburbs or any other type of residence. Genuine antique or vintage gothic lighting may not be designed for exterior use, but lighting manufacturers now offer modern exterior lights in authentic gothic patterns.
